The Plateau State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of the Sara-Suka cult group, which has been linked to violent activities in parts of Jos North Local Government Area.
The Command spokesperson, SP Alfred Alabo, said the arrests were carried out during separate raids on criminal hideouts aimed at flushing out cultists and curbing drug abuse in the state.
He explained that the operations were ordered by the Commissioner of Police, Bassey Ewah, as part of efforts to tackle cultism and illegal drug circulation.
In one of the operations, police arrested an 18-year-old suspect, Adam Abdullahi, in the Gengere area of Jos North.
He was reportedly found with a double-edged knife, cult-related clothing, and substances suspected to be crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as “ice.”
In another raid, officers from the Angwan Rogo Division arrested a 20-year-old suspect, Khalifa Yusuf, at the 011 Prayer Ground opposite the University of Jos permanent site.
Police said a knife and dried leaves suspected to be cannabis were recovered from him.
According to SP Alabo, both suspects are currently in police custody and will be charged to court after investigations are completed.
The Plateau State Police Command reiterated its commitment to fighting cultism and drug-related crimes, urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
