Troops attached to Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have intervened in a communal clash between the Agbaka and Anyiase communities in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.
Security sources revealed that soldiers stationed in Ukpiam were deployed around 12:10 p.m. on May 1 following reports of renewed violence between the two communities.
By the time the troops arrived at the scene, several houses had already been set ablaze by the attackers, who fled before security forces could confront them.
The soldiers immediately launched a pursuit of the fleeing assailants along their escape routes, but no arrests had been made at the time of filing the report.
Additional security personnel have since been deployed to the area to prevent further violence, while efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
Authorities also confirmed that investigations are underway as steps are being taken to restore peace and stability in the affected communities.
