Prophet Ajiboye Abayomi Olayinka, the General Overseer of Mission House of Divine Land of Joy and Prayer Ministry, has been sentenced to life imprisonment over rape and related offences involving minors.
Justice Hammed Aliyu Gegele of the Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin delivered the judgment on Wednesday, convicting the cleric on several counts of rape and unlawful sexual intercourse involving underage victims.
In addition to the life sentence, the court also sentenced him to 14 years imprisonment for illegal abortion.
The conviction followed investigations carried out by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command, through its Gender Unit after the suspect was arrested in May 2024.
The cleric was accused of sexually abusing and exploiting underage victims in Agah Village, Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State.
After the investigation was concluded, the case was transferred to the Kwara State Ministry of Justice for prosecution, which later secured the conviction in court.
The Commandant of the NSCDC in the state, Abbas Nda Mohammed, praised the victims for their courage in speaking out despite alleged threats, intimidation, and emotional trauma.
He also commended officers of the Gender Unit for their professionalism, dedication, and resilience during the investigation process that led to the successful prosecution of the case.
The command further appreciated the Kwara State Ministry of Justice for its cooperation and commitment to ensuring justice was served.
Commandant Abbas reaffirmed the NSCDC’s commitment to protecting children and vulnerable persons while ensuring that perpetrators of sexual and gender-based violence face justice regardless of their social, religious, or professional status.
