The Kano State Police Command has arrested a suspected drug dealer and recovered 879 parcels of suspected cannabis in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed this in a statement released on Friday.
According to him, the operation was carried out on May 13, 2026, at about 6 pm by officers attached to the Dawakin Tofa Police Division following credible intelligence from members of the public.
Kiyawa said the suspect, identified as Umaru, also known as Jalo, was arrested while allegedly offloading 18 sacks of dried leaves believed to be cannabis into his house at Yan Shado Village.
“Upon examination, each sack contained parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Cannabis sativa, totalling 879 parcels,” he said.
The police spokesperson explained that the operation followed directives from the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, who ordered an intensified crackdown on drug dealers and criminal activities across the state.
He added that the operation also aligns with the policing strategy of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, which focuses on intelligence-led and community-based policing.
Kiyawa said the suspect is currently in police custody and undergoing investigation before being charged to court.
“The suspect is currently in custody undergoing investigation and will be charged to court upon completion,” he added.
The Commissioner of Police also reaffirmed the command’s zero-tolerance stance against drug trafficking, noting that illegal drugs often contribute to crimes such as violence, thuggery, and other criminal activities.
He urged residents to continue supporting the police with useful information, assuring them that the identities of informants would remain protected.
