The Sokoto State Hisbah Board has shut down a suspected brothel and arrested 11 people, including men and women, in Sokoto metropolis.
The operation was carried out on Wednesday evening in the Sokoto Cilma area of the state capital.
According to officials, the raid was conducted under a special exercise known as “Operation Tsaftace Birni Shehu,” which is aimed at stopping activities considered immoral and against religious and public order laws in the state.
The Hisbah Board said the operation followed intelligence reports from members of the public about suspicious activities taking place in the building.
The Acting Commander of the Sokoto State Hisbah Board, Imam Sirajo Abubakar, who also serves as Director of Da’awah and Aids, personally led the operation.
Officials confirmed that all suspects were arrested at the scene, while the building was sealed off pending further investigation.
Speaking after the raid, Abubakar said the board remains committed to eliminating activities it believes are harmful to society.
He said, “We are determined to rid Sokoto metropolis of all forms of prostitution and immoral acts that corrupt our youths.”
He also warned that anyone found engaging in such activities would face prosecution and added that similar enforcement operations would continue across the state.
“The public should expect more of these operations because we will not allow indecency to take root in our communities,” he added.
