Media personality Ebuka Obi-Uchendu has opened up about his past struggle with smoking addiction and how he eventually overcame it.

Speaking during a recent episode of the ‘MENtality’ show alongside singer Banky W and social media influencer Aproko Doctor, Ebuka revealed that he started smoking while in JSS3.

According to him, the habit lasted for 13 years and became more serious during his university days.

“I started smoking in JSS3. I smoked for 13 years. By the time I entered university, I was smoking two packs a day. I was a heavy smoker,” he recalled.

Ebuka explained that he later made conscious efforts to stop smoking and was eventually able to overcome the addiction.

Banky W also spoke during the discussion and revealed that he once struggled with pornography addiction while trying to avoid promiscuity.

He said, “I was trying to battle pornography and decided that instead of moving from woman to woman, I should just be watching pornography.”

Ebuka added that many people often make the mistake of replacing one addiction with another while trying to escape their previous habits.

On his part, Aproko Doctor explained that many harmful addictions develop because people are trying to escape pain and seek comfort or pleasure.

He said, “Human beings have two ambitions. The first is to avoid pain. The second is to chase pleasure. A lot of drug use comes because a lot of people are trying to avoid pain.”

The trio stressed the importance of self-regulation and self-discovery in overcoming addiction and other harmful habits.
