The Sokoto State Hisbah Board has arrested 17 people during coordinated raids on suspected locations linked to immoral activities across different parts of Sokoto metropolis.
According to a statement issued by the board on May 24, 2026, the operation was carried out under the ongoing “Operation Tsaftace Birnin Shehu,” a campaign aimed at cleaning up and sanitising the state.
The statement explained that the acting Commander of the Sokoto State Hisbah Board and Director of Da’awa, Imam Sirajo Abubakar, led the operation.
The raids were carried out in several areas, including Minannata, Rijiyar Shehu, Majema, Sokoto Silame, and Mabera.
Authorities said the exercise was part of efforts to reduce activities considered immoral and not in line with the cultural and legal values of the state.
However, the board did not release the identities of those arrested, and it is still unclear whether any formal charges will be filed against them.
