Chelsea face a fresh transfer battle as midfielder Enzo Fernandez has expressed his desire to leave Stamford Bridge. The Argentina international is unsettled after the club failed to qualify for European competition, and his agent Javier Pastore is already exploring possible destinations.

Fernandez, 25, joined Chelsea from Benfica in 2023 for £107m and signed a long-term contract running until 2032. His deal gives Chelsea leverage, and the club has made clear they will only consider bids in the region of £120m.

Despite his wish to move, Fernandez remains central to Chelsea’s plans for next season. He was one of the standout performers in a disappointing campaign, scoring 15 goals and providing seven assists. His consistency earned him runner-up in the club’s player of the season award.

Real Madrid is Fernandez’s preferred option, but the Spanish giants are reluctant to meet Chelsea’s valuation. Madrid are weighing their finances carefully, with interest also in Manchester City midfielder Rodri. Any move for Fernandez would likely depend on significant player sales.

Manchester City has also been mentioned as a possible destination. The Premier League champions are expected to appoint former Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca as Pep Guardiola’s successor. However, City’s immediate priority is Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson, making Fernandez a secondary target.

Paris Saint-Germain, another club linked with Fernandez, has downplayed speculation of a move. PSG officials insist they are not pursuing the midfielder at this stage, despite reports suggesting otherwise.

Chelsea’s hierarchy acknowledges the need to strengthen the squad with proven Premier League talent for incoming manager Xabi Alonso. The Blues finished 10th last season, missing out on Europe and failing to secure silverware. Senior figures at the club believe reinforcements are essential to restore competitiveness.

Fernandez’s situation highlights the tension between player ambition and club strategy. While he seeks a new challenge, Chelsea are determined to protect their investment. With the transfer window approaching, the standoff between Fernandez’s camp and Chelsea could shape one of the summer’s biggest stories.
