A devastating road accident in the early hours of Friday has claimed the lives of 12 people at Samawa Village, Garun Malam Local Government Area of Kano State.

The lone crash occurred at about 2:40 a.m. along the Zaria–Kano highway and involved a DAF Trailer (CF95 model) with registration number KMC 931 ZE. The trailer, which was loaded with goods, was also carrying passengers when the incident happened.

Eyewitnesses said the impact was severe, leaving several victims trapped under the wreckage. Officials from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and local emergency responders arrived at the scene to evacuate the injured and recover the bodies.

Authorities have not yet released the identities of the deceased, but confirmed that multiple others sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.

While investigations are ongoing, preliminary reports suggest that overloading and fatigue on the part of the driver may have contributed to the accident.
