The President of Botswana, His Excellency Advocate Duma Gideon Boko, has appointed Mr. Farouk Gumel, Vice Chairman, Africa for Tropical General Investments (TGI) Group, as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the newly established Botswana Sovereign Wealth Fund Limited.
Gumel, who also served as the immediate past Chairman of the Nigerian Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA), brings extensive experience in finance, investment, and governance to the role.
The announcement was made during the official launch of the multi-billion-dollar Sovereign Wealth Fund at the President’s office in Gaborone.
In his remarks, President Boko described the initiative as a major milestone in his administration’s drive to safeguard Botswana’s financial future and diversify its economy. He emphasized that Gumel’s leadership will be critical in ensuring transparency, sustainability, and global competitiveness for the fund.
The appointment has been widely welcomed, with observers noting that Gumel’s track record in Nigeria positions him well to steer Botswana’s sovereign wealth management to global standards.
