The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, has thrown the weight of the Green Chamber behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s borrowing strategy, describing it as vital for Nigeria’s economic growth and poverty reduction.
Speaking in Abuja on Monday at the 8th Annual African Network of Parliamentary Budget Offices (AN-PBO) Conference, Abbas dismissed reports that lawmakers opposed the President’s borrowing plans, calling such claims “mischievous and misleading.”
He stressed that borrowing, when tied to productive investments, is an “indispensable tool” for national development and assured that the House would continue to work with the executive to ensure fiscal responsibility and accountability.
The Speaker also urged African parliaments to strengthen budget oversight systems to improve transparency and accelerate economic transformation across the continent.
