Appeal Court Overturns Kano High Court Ruling on LG Elections

The Court of Appeal has overturned the ruling of the Federal High Court in Kano that halted preparations for the Kano local government elections — a case filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a faction of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).

The appeal court’s decision, delivered Friday, clears the path for the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) to proceed with organizing the much-anticipated polls.

Reacting to the development, supporters of the current state leadership described the ruling as a major win for democracy and due process.

“Alhamdulillah. Another Good Friday for us,” a source close to the Kano government said, celebrating the judgment.

The case had caused political tension in the state, with critics accusing the plaintiffs of attempting to derail the electoral process through the courts. Today’s verdict is seen as a reinforcement of the rule of law and a rejection of what some called “judicial ambush.”
