Former Radio 1 DJ, Tim Westwood, has been officially charged by the Metropolitan Police with several sexual offences involving seven women over a period of more than 30 years.

According to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), the 68-year-old faces four counts of rape, nine counts of indecent assault, and two counts of sexual assault. The alleged incidents occurred between 1983 and 2016.

Reports say the youngest alleged victim was 17 years old at the time of the first offence in Fulham, London, in 1983. Other alleged assaults reportedly took place in Vauxhall (1986), London (1995–1996), Gloucestershire (2010), and Finchley (2016).

Westwood has denied all allegations, maintaining his innocence since the first accusations surfaced in April 2022. His representative had stated then that the DJ “strongly rejects all allegations of wrongdoing.”

Chief Crown Prosecutor Lionel Idan confirmed that there is sufficient evidence to proceed to trial, emphasizing that it is in the public interest to do so. He also cautioned the public against online commentary or reporting that could interfere with the fairness of the trial.

Detective Superintendent Andy Murphy encouraged other possible victims or witnesses to come forward, noting that the investigation remains open.

Westwood is set to appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on November 10.

Tim Westwood began his broadcasting career in local radio before moving to Capital Radio in the late 1980s. He joined the BBC in 1994, working on Radio 1 and 1Xtra for nearly 20 years before leaving in 2012. Afterward, he hosted shows on Capital Xtra until his exit in 2022.
