Just days before what would have been their 29th wedding anniversary, Akon’s wife, Tomeka Thiam, filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences.
According to court documents, Tomeka is requesting joint legal custody of their daughter, Journey, with primary physical custody granted to her, as well as spousal support.
The news shocked fans, as Akon and Tomeka were often seen as one of the music industry’s most stable couples.
Soon after the divorce filing surfaced, online rumours claimed that Tomeka was demanding €100 million (about $108 million or £85 million) as part of the settlement. However, no credible reports or court records have confirmed this figure, making it unverified.
There were also claims that Akon only had $10,000 left in his bank account, but these reports remain unsubstantiated.
Neither Akon nor his representatives have made any public statements regarding the divorce or the rumours surrounding his finances.
