Popular filmmaker Funke Akindele has revealed that her latest movie, Behind The Scenes, was inspired by divine instruction, which caused her to abandon her initial production plans.
Speaking during the FilmOne end-of-year exhibitor showcase, Akindele explained that she had been preparing to shoot A Tribe Called Judah 2 — including rehearsals and negotiations — before the Holy Spirit directed her to make a different film.
The 38-year-old award-winning producer said she attempted to work on four other scripts and even considered partnerships, but each time, she was spiritually instructed to stop.
“We weren’t supposed to release *Behind The Scenes*. I actually wanted to release *A Tribe Called Judah 2*. We’d even started rehearsals and training, but the Spirit of God kept telling me, ‘No, you will not shoot that film,’” she said.
“We tried almost four other scripts, and even thought of partnering with another filmmaker, but the Spirit of God said, ‘You’re wasting your time. You will shoot this film.’”
Akindele added that the inspiration for Behind The Scenes came from a single moment that she found “deeply relatable and reflective of real-life experiences.”
The upcoming film, starring Tobi Bakare, Veeiye, Uzor Arukwe, Ini Dima-Okojie, and Ibrahim Chatta, is set to premiere in cinemas nationwide on December 12.
