Nigerian singer and songwriter Omah Lay has once again drawn attention online after opening up about his emotional struggles, past relationships, and mental health journey.

The “Understand” hitmaker, known for his soulful lyrics and raw honesty, took to Instagram this week to reflect on love, vulnerability, and personal growth.

In a series of posts, Omah Lay revealed that he had been emotionally manipulated in previous relationships, particularly during moments when he was most vulnerable. However, he shared that with greater self-awareness and healing, he has learned to identify toxic patterns and protect his peace.

“Since I became aware of the pattern, it doesn’t work anymore,” he wrote, suggesting a turning point in his emotional recovery.

His message quickly sparked concern among fans, with many fearing he might be experiencing another wave of mental distress. This comes just weeks after he posted a troubling message saying, “God please help me, I’m losing my mind again.”

Omah Lay has been open about his struggles with fame, heartbreak, and depression in the past, explaining how these experiences influence his sound and storytelling.

Fans often describe his music style as “Afro-depression” — a term Omah Lay embraced during an interview with Billboard in 2024. He said he was proud that listeners connected deeply with his emotional honesty.

“I love that my music started something new. I didn’t even have to tell people that my music is Afro-depression; they understood it from listening,” he said.

While fans praise his openness for bringing attention to mental health issues, many continue to express concern for his wellbeing, urging him to seek help and prioritise his mental peace.

Omah Lay’s vulnerability continues to inspire important conversations about the connection between creativity, emotional pain, and healing in the entertainment world — a dialogue that many believe is long overdue.
