Renowned traditional musician, John Zuya, better known as John Mai Molo, has died after allegedly eating poisoned food in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
Zuya had just returned from Lagos on October 16, 2025, where he had performed at several cultural events. Shortly after arriving home, he reportedly ate a meal and began to feel very sick. He later collapsed.
He was rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) in Bauchi, but doctors confirmed he was already dead.
His death was confirmed by fellow musician and close friend, Emma Wakili, in a Facebook post. According to Wakili, John Mai Molo died around 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 18, 2025.
His body has been kept at the hospital mortuary for an autopsy, as police begin an investigation into the exact cause of his death.
