Nigerian Musician, Akiin Shuga Dies in Canada

Popular Nigerian musician and live band leader, Akinloye Tofowomo, better known as Akiin Shuga, has passed away at the age of 50 in New Brunswick, Canada.

His death, which occurred on October 30, 2025, was confirmed in a statement released by his family on Monday.

The family described the Shuga Band founder as “a revered music icon and custodian of rhythm, culture, and the spirit of performance.”

They added that details of his funeral arrangements would be announced later, while requesting privacy and quiet reflection during this difficult period.

Akiin Shuga, who made a lasting impact on Nigeria’s live music scene, is survived by his wife, children, siblings, and mother.
