Nigerian DJ and producer Imohiosen Patrick, popularly known as DJ Neptune, has voiced concern over what he calls a growing culture of sidelining veterans in the country’s music industry.
In an interview with Hip TV, he said many creatives are pushed aside once they reach certain milestones, describing it as a structural flaw unique to Nigeria. He explained that unlike Western industries, where veterans remain celebrated alongside rising stars, Nigerian OGs are often treated as outdated.
He said the industry needs to address these structural issues that make it difficult for veterans to stay visible and respected.
DJ Neptune also spoke about his own longevity, noting that his strategy has been constant reinvention. While he does not plan to remain in the industry forever, he said adapting to change has been key to staying relevant.
He added that knowing when to evolve is necessary in a constantly shifting entertainment landscape.
