Social media critic VeryDarkMan has admitted that he was the one who alerted the police, leading to the arrest of activist Harrison Gwamnishu, who is now in custody in Benin, Edo State.
In a Facebook video posted on Friday, he confirmed that Gwamnishu was picked up on Thursday night after he personally contacted the police. According to him, he received reports about an incident involving Gwamnishu in Auchi and became “disappointed” after verifying the details.
He explained that he initially urged those involved not to publicise the matter, but a video later surfaced online, causing him to confront the individuals who released it. One person reportedly posted the video to clear his name after being linked to the situation.
VeryDarkMan criticised Gwamnishu’s response video, describing it as “gaslighting” and an attempt to sway public sentiment despite knowing the facts. He said the police had instructed those present not to record, yet one clip still emerged showing Gwamnishu returning money connected to the case. He added that Gwamnishu’s truck is currently at the police station.
Addressing claims that he acted out of jealousy, the influencer insisted his actions were driven by a desire for truth. He expressed hope that once released, Gwamnishu would openly explain what transpired in Auchi, cautioning that he might disclose additional details if that does not happen.
VeryDarkMan said he stands by his decision, stressing that he felt obligated to intervene based on the information he gathered.
