British-Nigerian boxing star Anthony Joshua’s highly anticipated £100 million fight with Tyson Fury is now in serious doubt following a car accident in Nigeria.
Joshua was involved in a crash on Monday along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, where he was pulled out alive from a badly wrecked SUV. Reports indicate that two of his close friends who were travelling with him died as a result of the accident.
Although initial reports suggested Joshua escaped with minor injuries, new information indicates the situation may be more serious. According to the Daily Mail, the former heavyweight champion may have suffered knee and rib injuries, raising concerns about his ability to return to training anytime soon.
Videos circulating on social media show Joshua visibly in pain as bystanders helped carry him out of the damaged vehicle, further fueling speculation about the extent of his injuries.
The accident has cast uncertainty over Joshua’s proposed blockbuster bout with Tyson Fury, which was expected to take place next year. At 36, any significant injury could impact his recovery time and preparation for what would be one of the biggest fights in boxing history.
As of now, no official medical update has been released by Joshua’s camp, and fans are awaiting confirmation on his condition and the future of the mega-fight.
