NAPTIP Rejects Speed Darlington’s Request to Postpone Appearance Over Viral Confession

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has turned down a request by controversial entertainer Speed Darlington (real name Darlington Okoye) to delay his appearance before the agency until June 26, 2025.

The summon follows a viral Instagram live session where Speed Darlington appeared to claim he had sexual relations with a 15-year-old girl. The video sparked widespread outrage, with women’s rights groups and concerned viewers calling for immediate investigation. The Lagos State Government also referred the case to NAPTIP, prompting the agency to summon him for questioning.

He was initially expected to report at NAPTIP’s Abuja office on May 30. When he failed to appear, he responded by suggesting a new date — June 26 — citing prior commitments. However, NAPTIP rejected his proposal, stating that the matter is of “urgent national importance.”

In a follow-up letter, the agency gave him another chance to appear by **Monday, June 2 at 1:00 p.m.**, which he also missed. Officials at NAPTIP say the agency is now reviewing its legal options.

A senior official, speaking anonymously, said legal action is likely, especially as the singer has now ignored two official invitations. NAPTIP emphasized that “no one is above the law,” and that it will not accept any rescheduling attempts from Okoye.

NAPTIP’s spokesperson, Vincent Adekoye, confirmed that the agency is working closely with the Nigerian Immigration Service and other law enforcement bodies to ensure Okoye does not evade investigation.

“NAPTIP is a proactive agency,” Adekoye said. “We’ve activated all necessary partnerships to ensure he answers for what he said. We are not taking any chances.”
