American rapper Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr., popularly known as DDG, has dismissed what he described as fake Western media narratives portraying Nigeria as an extremely dangerous country.

The hip-hop star, who is currently on holiday in Lagos, said Nigeria is nowhere near as dangerous as the United States, contrary to what many foreigners are made to believe.

Speaking in a video shared online, DDG argued that America is actually more dangerous, citing gun violence and gang-related crimes as major issues.

“I honestly think America is the most dangerous country. I don’t think Nigeria is as dangerous as America – nowhere near,” he said.

While acknowledging that insecurity exists in Nigeria, the rapper noted that gun violence and gangsterism are far more common in the United States.

“There is insecurity in Nigeria, no doubt. But gun violence and gangsterism are not common here like they are in America. So if anybody is thinking about coming to Nigeria, pull up,” he added.

DDG also spoke about misconceptions surrounding Nigerian food and water. According to him, he was warned before arriving that Nigerian food was unhealthy and that he would need to boil water before drinking.

However, he said his experience proved otherwise, describing Nigerian meals as healthy and enjoyable, with a special mention of jollof rice.

He encouraged foreigners to visit Nigeria and experience the country firsthand instead of relying on negative media portrayals.
