Kwankwaso Sets Conditions for Defection to ADC, Others

Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, national leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has declared that he would only consider defecting to another political party if he is offered either the presidential or vice-presidential ticket for the 2027 general election.

Kwankwaso made this known on Wednesday while addressing NNPP supporters at his residence in Kano. The former Kano State governor said that after more than four decades in politics, any move to another party must reflect both his political stature and the expectations of his supporters across the country.

According to him, his supporters would not accept a defection unless it guarantees him one of the top two positions on the ballot in the next general election.

Kwankwaso also used the occasion to criticise the planned defection of Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, to the All Progressives Congress (APC). He described the move as a betrayal, noting that the NNPP played a critical role in Yusuf’s emergence as governor.

The NNPP leader stressed the importance of loyalty and internal unity within the party, especially as preparations gradually begin for the 2027 elections. He reaffirmed his commitment to the NNPP but maintained that political decisions must align with long-term goals and the interests of his followers nationwide.

Kwankwaso’s comments are expected to further fuel speculation about potential realignments ahead of the next election cycle, as major political parties continue to position themselves for 2027.
