Alleged Rape: Pastor Chris Okafor Honours Police Invitation, Reports to SCID

The General Overseer of Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries, Pastor Chris Okafor, has reported to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, Lagos, over allegations of rape and other offences.

Okafor presented himself to the police on Tuesday, a day after he failed to honour an earlier invitation scheduled for Monday. Sources said his decision to report followed warnings from influential individuals who cautioned him about the consequences of ignoring a lawful police summons.

The investigation is linked to an ongoing case involving Okafor and his estranged lover, actress Doris Ogalla, which is currently being handled by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), Zone 2 Command, Onikan. According to police sources, Okafor initially ignored the Lagos Command’s invitation because he believed the matter was already being addressed at the zonal level, where he is the complainant and Ogalla the suspect.

A senior police officer explained:

“Some highly placed persons saw the report that he shunned the invitation and warned him about the implications. That is why he later presented himself at the SCID in Yaba for questioning.”

During his visit, Okafor made a statement but was not detained, as no formal complainant appeared before the Lagos Command.

“We have tried to reach the alleged victims and even offered protection and transportation, but no one showed up,” an officer said.

The police added that since there is already an active investigation at Zone 2, the Lagos State Police Command will step back and allow the zonal command to conclude its probe. However, authorities stressed that the case remains open and urged any victims to come forward.

The Lagos State Police Command had earlier invited Okafor through a letter dated January 3, asking him to report by 10 a.m. on Monday. Following multiple allegations — including sexual misconduct, abuse of spiritual authority, and other serious claims — the Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, ordered a thorough investigation.

The allegations gained public attention after Doris Ogalla accused Okafor of breaking a marriage promise and released video and audio recordings as alleged evidence. Other accusations later emerged from several women, including his Cameroonian ex-wife and some church members.

Ogalla has also filed a ₦1 billion lawsuit, alleging intimidation and threats. While Okafor initially dismissed the claims as a smear campaign, he later admitted to some issues, apologised to his congregation, and announced that he would step down temporarily as senior pastor while investigations continue.
