Nigerian Afrobeat musician, Seun Kuti, has accused singer Wizkid of stealing his nickname, insisting that he used it long before the Grammy-winning artiste adopted a similar one.
Seun made the claim during a recent livestream after a Wizkid fan asked him to change his nickname, “Big Bird,” because Wizkid is popularly known as “Biggest Bird.”
Reacting, Seun rejected the suggestion and instead told the fan to advise Wizkid to be original.
“Wizkid stole my name. Tell your fave to be original. Why are you telling me to change my name?” he said.
The singer stressed that he has been using the nickname for years and has no intention of changing it for anyone.
“Sorry, I can’t change it. This name has been here since. I am the first to come up with it,” Seun added.
He further noted that he was not competing with anyone over the name.
“I am not dragging it with anybody, please,” he said.
The remarks have since sparked reactions online, especially among fans of both artistes, following the circulation of the video from the livestream.
