Nigerian actress Etinosa Idemudia has revealed that fellow actress Mercy Johnson came to her aid during a frightening period when her ex-husband allegedly threatened to kill her.
She shared the experience in a recent interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo. According to Etinosa, the threats began after she spoke about domestic abuse in a past relationship during a movie interview.
Explaining what happened, she said she had gone for an interview to promote a film titled Stormy Heart. At the time, she described herself as inexperienced with media handling and answered questions very honestly.
She said, “So, how that happened, I went for an interview for a film, ‘Stormy Heart’. Like I said, at that time I was very green. I don’t know how to avoid questions in an interview or divert or lie with sense. It’s all about honesty at that time. So I think they asked about love or relationship. I now said one relationship nearly killed me. Anyway sha, the person is my ex-husband. I said it carelessly.
“Did you know that the media house left everything I said about the film, they now crafted marriage aspects. Even myself I was shocked, nothing wey I no hear. Because nobody knew about all those things until that time. My ex-husband now called me that I’m doing an interview on his head. So he started threatening me, saying that I want to ruin his career. He said that I should come out and write that I said those things because I’m a bitter ex. And I asked him if he wanted me to put myself under the box for you?
“So when the threat was getting too much, I have to now cry out on Instagram. So, a few people reached out to me that I can’t remember. But I remember that Mercy Johnson reached out to me because she has a very strong military background. She was like she’s going to forward the case to the Chief of Naval Staff, to cut the story short, someone from Abuja reached out to me that they are now on the case, that this person will not bother you anymore.”
Reports indicate that Etinosa was first married to a military officer, Babatunde Solomon, before their divorce between 2017 and 2018. Her second marriage, to Benin-based lawyer Ighorosa, ended in 2021 after they welcomed their first child.
