Veteran singer Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has criticised Nigerian pastors, accusing many of them of using religion as a business rather than standing up for the people.
Speaking on a recent episode of the KAA Truths podcast, the Area Fada crooner accused some clerics of remaining silent in the face of Nigeria’s economic and security challenges. He also alleged that some pastors work with corrupt politicians to exploit the masses.
Charly Boy argued that many pastors focus more on profit than truth, claiming that most of them fail to speak out against injustice.
“All the pastors I know of in Nigeria, 99 per cent of them are useless. It is just a business that they are running,” he claimed.
He further said, “I may live in Nigeria but Nigeria does not live in me. I don’t believe like you. I don’t want to think like you people. I’m not in the same class with you people. I come from a different space and time,” he added.
