Nigeria made a powerful statement on one of global cinema’s biggest stages at the 2026 edition of the (BAFTAs), with major wins by Wunmi Mosaku, Akinola Davies Jr., and Wale Davies.

The ceremony took place on Sunday night at the , bringing together top figures from across the global film industry.

Mosaku won the Best Supporting Actress award for her role in the film Sinners, delivering one of the most memorable moments of the night. Visibly pregnant as she took to the stage, she received a standing ovation while reflecting on perseverance and purpose in her acceptance speech, further solidifying her reputation as one of the most respected talents of her generation.

In another landmark achievement, Akinola Davies Jr. and Wale Davies clinched the Outstanding British Debut award for My Father’s Shadow.

Their victory marks the first time Nigerian filmmakers have won in the category, a milestone widely celebrated as a breakthrough moment for African storytelling within British cinema.
