Nigerian rapper and singer Superboy Cheque has opened up about his battle with acne and how it affected his self-esteem.

Speaking in a recent interview with Yanga FM Lagos, Cheque recalled how his struggles with acne almost made him quit music. In an attempt to treat it, he bought a makeup product that worsened his condition.

“I struggled with acne years back. It was terrible. My desperation to cure it led me to buy a makeup that almost disfigured my face. It was embarrassing. I almost quit music,” he said.

He explained that after his breakthrough song Zoom and getting signed to a record label, he became more conscious about appearing on camera. As a perfectionist, he tried to fix his skin quickly, but the product damaged his face.

Cheque revealed that the experience later inspired his hit song History with Fireboy, adding that the situation also affected his social life and confidence in front of cameras.
