Veteran actor Pete Edochie has lamented Nigeria’s deteriorating electricity situation, revealing that he spends N40,000 daily to power his home.

In an interview on African Independent Television (AIT), the 78-year-old actor spoke about the crippling impact of erratic power supply on Nigerians.

Edochie itemised his daily expenses, citing N10,000 for electricity units, N20,000 for diesel to fuel his generator, and N10,000 for petrol to run a smaller generator.

“I spend about ₦10,000 every day buying electricity units. Then I spend ₦20,000 on diesel to power the generator and another ₦10,000 on petrol for a smaller generator. That brings the total to ₦40,000 daily just to provide electricity in my house,” he said.

This translates to a monthly bill of approximately N1.2 million, highlighting the country’s escalating energy costs.

“It disturbs me a lot because I’m not just working for light. Then I listen to people who are only interested in getting into politics and enjoying power. Nobody seems to be bothered about what’s happening to the common man,” he added.

His remarks reflect widespread complaints from Nigerians about inadequate electricity supply, with many reporting as little as five hours of power daily despite the government’s band system promising improved distribution.
