The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has commented on the viral partisan tweet linked to an account alleged to be operated by Professor Joash Amupitan before his appointment as the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
INEC has clarified that the X account doesn’t belong to its chairman.
Speaking during the commissioning of the new corporate headquarters of the Nigeria Revenue Service, Akpabio said though he doesn’t know if the account was operated by Professor Amupitan, but the tweet was done when he hasn’t assumed office as the Chairman of the electoral umpire.
“They brought out a tweet”, Akpabio said while referring to opposition parties, “where they said the chairman of INEC said victory is sure. But he didn’t say victory is sure for APC, he didn’t say victory is sure for PDP. He just said victory is sure.
“The man said it was manipulated, but for me whether it was manipulated or not he was not chairman of INEC, he was just a mere lecture.”
He added further, “Anybody can support anybody he wishes to, but when you’re on a sit, you have to think of the entire country and the entire populace.”
