Beninese-French singer and Grammy award-winning icon, Angélique Kidjo, has openly expressed her admiration for Nigerian Afrobeats star, Rema, praising his global achievements.

Speaking about Rema’s recognition at the TIME 100 Next honors, Kidjo described him as a true representation of Afrobeats’ worldwide success. She particularly highlighted her love for his hit song Calm Down, noting that it reflects African originality while remaining fresh and globally appealing.

“I fell in love with Rema’s Calm Down. It has a unique flow and feel, not imitating Western pop,” Kidjo wrote.

“It is rooted in Africa yet catchy and virtuosic. I love to sing it. The young Nigerian superstar has accomplished so much. Rema is the embodiment of Afrobeats’ international success. Thanks to artists like him, African music is at the forefront of global culture.”

In response, Rema appreciated the praise and commented under her post:
“Gratitude Queen. I’m honored.”
