The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gombe State has settled on Jamilu Gwamna as its consensus governorship candidate for the 2027 election.
Gwamna emerged ahead of Isa Pantami, who previously served as minister of communications and digital economy.
The announcement followed an enlarged stakeholders’ meeting held in the state. Governor Inuwa Yahaya presided over the meeting in his capacity as leader of the party.
Ismaila Misilli, director-general of press affairs at the Government House, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday. He said the stakeholders also endorsed consensus candidates for other key positions across the state.
These include candidates for the senate seats, the house of representatives, and all 24 constituencies in the state house of assembly.
Misilli stated that the meeting had in attendance aspirants for various offices, members of the state working committee, party elders, and other stakeholders.
He said the adoption of consensus candidates followed “extensive consultations spearheaded by the governor and party stakeholders, aimed at deepening internal cohesion, minimising friction, and projecting a united front ahead of the elections.”
According to him, the move reflects earlier efforts led by Governor Yahaya to build unity within the party through a series of engagements with stakeholders.
The party listed Mohammed Deba for Gombe Central, Jerry Damara for Gombe South, and Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for Gombe North as its senatorial candidates.
For the house of representatives, those adopted are Usman Kumo for Akko, Inuwa Garba for Yamaltu/Deba, Ali Isa for Balanga/Billiri, Fatima Bello for Kaltungo/Shongom, Saddam Bello for Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye, and Jamilu Shabewa for Dukku/Nafada.
Misilli said the consensus strategy is designed to strengthen unity, promote stability, and improve the party’s chances in the 2027 general election.
