Aston Villa secured the UEFA Europa League title on Wednesday night after defeating Freiburg 3-0 in the final played in Istanbul.

The Premier League club entered the encounter as favourites and quickly stamped their authority on the match with an impressive first-half display.

Unai Emery’s side took a two-goal lead before halftime through stunning efforts from Youri Tielemans and Emi Buendia.

Villa maintained control after the restart and added a third goal through Morgan Rogers, who finished from close range to seal a comfortable victory.

The triumph extended Emery’s remarkable record in the competition. The Spanish manager has now won the Europa League five times after previous successes with Sevilla and Villarreal.

Villa’s victory could also boost England’s representation in next season’s UEFA Champions League. The result means the Premier League may have six clubs in the competition if Aston Villa finish fifth in the league table.
