The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has refuted the Federal Government’s claim that ₦50 billion was released as part of the university revitalisation fund.

In a statement signed by Prof. Jurbe Molwus, ASUU described the report as fake news, saying that no federal university has received any such payment.

Molwus recalled that the union had suspended its two-week warning strike in good faith after assurances from top government officials that outstanding salary arrears and entitlements would be settled.

“Even the ₦50 billion revitalisation fund the FGN claimed to have released some weeks ago is yet to reach the universities. We do not know why the Minister of Education is still keeping it,” he said.

The union also denied claims that ₦2.3 billion had been released to clear salary and promotion arrears, insisting that members are yet to receive any payments despite government statements to the contrary.

ASUU stressed that what its members need are credit alerts, not press releases, as it prepares for its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting scheduled for November 8–9, 2025.

The union reiterated that withheld salaries, wage arrears, promotion arrears, and other entitlements remain unresolved.

It also warned that if the government fails to meet its demands by November 21, 2025, it may resume its suspended strike.

The development has reignited discussions across Nigeria’s academic community, with stakeholders closely watching how the government responds before the deadline.
