Nigerian singer Ceeza Milli has claimed he played an early role in discovering and supporting fellow artiste Ayra Starr.
Speaking during a recent interview with Yanga FM Lagos, Milli said he met Ayra Starr when he was in a relationship with a woman who was her “school mother,” a term often used for a senior student mentoring a junior in school.
According to him, he noticed her talent at a young age but was not focused at the time on building or managing artistes professionally.
He said he simply enjoyed seeing talented people grow and develop in their careers.
Milli also claimed that Ayra Starr stayed at his place for a period back then and insisted that she cannot deny the impact he had on her early musical journey.
“When I discovered Ayra Starr, I wasn’t really paying attention to keeping artistes but I like to watch artistes grow. She can’t deny my impact on her career. I discovered her at a very young age. She was still in school then. She was my ex-girlfriend’s school daughter, so she was even staying at my place at a point,” he said.
Ayra Starr rose to fame after releasing her self-titled debut extended play in January 2021 under Mavin Records.
She has previously shared that Mavin Records boss Don Jazzy reached out to her in December 2019 after coming across her music on Instagram, where she regularly posted song covers and original content.
