Armed bandits have reportedly imposed a N5 million levy on residents of several communities in Katsina State. The demand affects villages in Dan-Musa and Matazu Local Government Areas.
The communities identified include Mara Dangeza, Unguwar Tofa, and Gidan Goge. Reports indicate that the attackers issued a deadline for payment. They warned that failure to comply could lead to fresh attacks.
A North-West security analyst, Bakatsine, disclosed the development on X. He noted that the threat emerged months after a peace deal between local stakeholders and the bandits in November last year.
The situation has created panic among residents. Some families have already fled their homes due to fear of possible violence.
“Residents are calling for urgent government and security intervention as extortion tactics deepen insecurity in rural communities,” Bakatsine wrote.
