Gunmen suspected to be bandits on Tuesday ambushed a team of soldiers and vigilantes around Dogon Ruwa community in the Bashar district of Wase Local Government Area, Plateau State, killing at least two soldiers and two vigilante members.
Residents told Daily Trust that the attack occurred around 1:00 a.m. as the security team was trailing the bandits following an earlier attempted assault on the area.
Eyewitnesses said the heavily armed assailants overpowered the troops and vigilantes, seizing rifles from the slain soldiers before fleeing.
The ambush has sparked fear in the community, with locals calling for increased military presence and urgent government intervention to forestall further violence.
Authorities have yet to release an official statement, but a security source confirmed the incident, describing it as “a tragic loss in the ongoing fight against rural banditry.”
