British rapper Oakley Neil Caesar-Su, popularly known as Central Cee, has revealed that he has converted to Islam.
The Band 4 Band crooner made the announcement during a recent livestream, where he also disclosed that he has changed his name following his conversion.
“I just changed my name and took my shahada, I am a Muslim now,” he said in the video, as friends around him congratulated him.
Before this announcement, Central Cee had not publicly stated any formal religious affiliation.
Central Cee was born on June 4, 1998, in London to an English mother and a father of Guyanese and Chinese descent. His parents separated when he was seven years old, and he was raised by his mother alongside his two younger brothers in Shepherd’s Bush.
He began his music journey in 2014 with an appearance on a now-deleted episode of the Fire in the Streets series. His first official song appearance was on the Ain’t On Nuttin Remix in January 2015, alongside J Hus and others.
Central Cee gained widespread attention after releasing his breakout single Day in the Life on June 14, 2020. Since then, he has risen to become one of the leading figures in the UK drill music scene, earning recognition as a major star in the genre.
