A former Chief of Army Staff and Nigeria’s ex-Ambassador to Benin Republic, Lt. Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai (Rtd), has debunked rumours claiming he was attacked by insurgents in Borno State.

In a statement issued on Monday by Brigadier General S.K. Usman (Rtd), Buratai’s former spokesperson, the reports were described as “utterly false” and the work of “mischievous fake news peddlers.”

“General Buratai was not attacked in any way. He peacefully celebrated the Eid festivities in Abuja with family, friends, and well-wishers,” the statement read.

The aide dismissed the story as a fabrication designed to spread fear and confusion, urging the public to disregard the claims. He also expressed gratitude to well-meaning Nigerians who showed concern and reached out during the period.

“No amount of falsehood or malicious propaganda can tarnish the image of a man who has devoted his life to the service of our great nation,” Usman added.
