In a decisive move to tackle escalating violence, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has “temporarily relocated to Benue State” to personally oversee military operations.
This follows a wave of brutal attacks that have left “over 270 people dead” in just two months, turning parts of the state into conflict zones.
The Army Chief’s presence is aimed at “boosting troop morale” coordinating response strategies, and “restoring peace” to affected communities.
“We will not rest until lives and property are safe again,” Gen. Oluyede said, assuring residents of swift and firm military action.
Benue has long been a hotspot for farmer-herder clashes, banditry, and communal violence — but the recent spike in killings has triggered national alarm.
