Tragedy struck in Abuja yesterday as a couple lost their lives in a fatal auto crash after being chased by roadside touts, popularly called agbero.

The incident occurred along the Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway, between Mabushi and Bannex — a stretch notorious for the activities of touts who often harass motorists.

Eyewitnesses said the couple, who were driving through the area, were pursued aggressively by the touts before their vehicle lost control and crashed. One of the touts involved in the chase also died in the accident.

Authorities are yet to release the identities of the victims, but residents have renewed calls for urgent government action to curb the menace of roadside touts in the Federal Capital Territory.
