The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has intercepted two trucks loaded with a total of 120,000 litres of petrol suspected to have been diverted from their approved destination.
The operation was carried out under the special enforcement initiative, Operation Whirlwind which targets the smuggling and diversion of petroleum products.
According to the Coordinator of Operation Whirlwind for Zone B, Kola Olawole, the trucks — each loaded with 60,000 litres of petrol — were intercepted along the Sokoto–Illela Road on October 4
Olawole said preliminary findings revealed that the products were originally documented for delivery in Kano State, but were diverted while en route to Sokoto State
He added that the interception was part of ongoing efforts by the NCS to curb the illegal distribution of petroleum products and ensure compliance with government regulations.
“The Customs Service remains committed to protecting Nigeria’s economic interests and ensuring that petroleum products reach their intended destinations,” Olawole stated.
