The Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals has announced the arrival of the first batch of its 4,000 compressed natural gas (CNG)-powered trucks for its upcoming fuel distribution programme, scheduled to officially begin on August 15.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the company said the initiative marks a major step in transforming Nigeria’s fuel distribution system by cutting logistics costs and improving supply efficiency.

Valued at an estimated ₦720 billion, the massive fleet is being imported through Apapa Port. The trucks are expected to significantly enhance the refinery’s capacity to transport refined products nationwide while promoting the use of cleaner energy sources.

The first delivery was received at the refinery site in Ibeju-Lekki by Dangote Industries’ Vice-President of Oil and Gas, Devakumar Edwin, accompanied by refinery staff and customers. Edwin described the investment as a “game-changer” for Nigeria’s downstream sector, noting that the shift to CNG-powered vehicles will also help reduce carbon emissions and reliance on diesel.

The Dangote Refinery, Africa’s largest, is gearing up for its full-scale fuel supply operations, with the distribution fleet poised to connect the facility to every corner of the country.
