The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has traced 41 properties valued at approximately ₦212 billion to Abubakar Malami, Nigeria’s former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, according to a report by TheCable.
The properties, which include hotels, residential buildings, parcels of land, schools and a printing press, are said to be located across Kebbi State, Kano State and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
A breakdown of the valuation cited by TheCable shows that assets located in Kebbi State account for the largest share, estimated at ₦162.19 billion. Properties in Kano State are reportedly valued at ₦16.01 billion, while those in the FCT are put at ₦34.69 billion.
The EFCC has not yet released a comprehensive public statement detailing how the properties were identified or whether formal charges have been filed in connection with the assets. However, the development forms part of ongoing anti-corruption investigations involving former public officials.
Malami served as attorney-general and minister of justice from 2015 to 2023 under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari. He has previously denied allegations of wrongdoing during his tenure, insisting that his actions in office complied with the law.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official response from Malami addressing the latest claims.
The EFCC has reiterated in recent months its commitment to pursuing corruption cases and asset recovery, regardless of status or political affiliation. Further details are expected as investigations continue.
