Emir Sanusi: Nigeria Has Suffered from Poor Leadership for Too Long

The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has lamented Nigeria’s prolonged struggle with poor leadership, saying the country has not been fortunate with quality leaders for many years.

Sanusi made the remarks on Saturday while speaking at the second Kano International Poetry Festival (KAPFEST) held in Kano.

According to the monarch, the quality of leadership is central to the nation’s progress, and Nigeria’s challenges can only be resolved when competent and visionary leaders emerge.

“You rise and fall with the quality of your leadership, and Nigeria has had lousy leadership for a long time. You cannot give what you do not have until we begin to look at the people who we choose to lead us,” the emir said.

He stressed that good governance remains the most important factor in salvaging the country from its current social and economic difficulties.
