Federal Government Declares December 25, 26, and January 1, 2026, as Public Holidays

In a recent announcement, the Federal Government of Nigeria has declared December 25, 26, and January 1, 2026, as public holidays in observance of Christmas, Boxing Day, and the New Year celebrations.

The declaration was made through a statement issued by Magdalene Ajani, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, on behalf of the Honourable Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

The three-day holiday period will allow Nigerians across the country to celebrate these important cultural and religious occasions with their loved ones.

In the official statement, Ajani extended best wishes for a joyous and peaceful festive season to all citizens, urging them to celebrate responsibly and maintain public order.

The government also reminded citizens to adhere to all safety guidelines and be considerate of others during the festivities.

As the year comes to a close, the declaration of these public holidays provides a much-needed break for Nigerians, as the country wraps up a challenging year.
