The Federal Government has strongly refuted allegations by some international platforms and online influencers suggesting that terrorists in Nigeria are carrying out a systematic genocide against Christians.

In a statement issued on Sunday, September 28, 2025, by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, the government described the claims as “false, baseless, despicable, and divisive.”

Idris said portraying Nigeria’s security challenges as a campaign against a single religious group was misleading and harmful, stressing that terrorists target Muslims, Christians, and non-believers alike.

He highlighted recent military successes, including the capture of Ansaru leaders and the neutralization of over 13,500 terrorists since 2023, as proof of Nigeria’s commitment to combating terrorism.

The Minister also noted that Nigeria, as a multi-religious state, remains committed to inclusivity and peaceful coexistence, urging the international media to avoid sensationalism and support the country’s fight against insecurity.
