The Federal Government has officially renamed the Abuja International Conference Centre (AICC) after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu following a major renovation of the iconic facility.

The announcement was made during a formal commissioning ceremony in Abuja on Tuesday, attended by top government officials, dignitaries, and political allies of the president. The center will now be known as the “Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre”.

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, who presided over the event, said the decision to rename the facility was in recognition of President Tinubu’s “visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to national development.”

“President Tinubu’s administration has demonstrated a strong dedication to infrastructure renewal and institutional reform. The renovation of this conference center is a testament to that,” Wike said.

The AICC, a central venue for high-profile national and international events in Nigeria’s capital, recently underwent a comprehensive facelift that included modernized interiors, upgraded security systems, digital conferencing facilities, and enhanced accessibility features.

Reactions to the renaming have been mixed. Supporters of the president have praised the move, calling it a fitting tribute to his legacy. Critics, however, argue that such honors should be reserved for leaders after their tenure or posthumously.

Meanwhile, government sources insist that the gesture is part of broader efforts to rebrand national landmarks and reflect the country’s current leadership direction.

The Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre is expected to host several upcoming regional and global events, signaling Nigeria’s continued relevance on the diplomatic and development stage.
